5. 24-0673 Consideration of request from Engineering Division to install stop signs on the Vliet Street approaches to 118th Street, the Cherry Street approaches to 119th Street, and the 120th Street approaches to Cherry Street
As an eight-year resident of the Fisher Woods neighborhood, I'm writing to ask for your support and approval of stop signs at 118th and Vliet Streets. A few weeks ago, as we made our way to the car for school drop-off, my son and I heard a horrible noise at the intersection and learned two cars had collided at this currently uncontrolled intersection. The cars were badly damaged but luckily everyone was seemingly OK.
While there are many uncontrolled intersections throughout Fisher Woods, it really seems like cars come flying off of Watertown Plank and race down 118th St., knowing they don't have a stop sign for two blocks. I am hopeful the committee sees what a safety hazard this is and will move forward with the stop sign installation. As my son gets older and more independent, I worry about his ability to safely travel around our neighborhood and having these stop signs would help me breath a bit easier.
